Question

Microphone problem

Jul 13, 2017 12:47PM PDT

I got a generic mic plugged into a realtek built in sound card, but I tried most of the regular troubleshooting and can't make it to work. I tried it on another comp and its working fine, so, there may be something wrong with my comp?
Thank for the help in advance

Answer
That's a simple yes.

You can try other drivers (use the one for your board from its maker first) and be sure all the usually settings are set.

The usual fix I use is a sub 10 buck USB sound card. many on Amazon and cheaper than a service call or counter.

anything else?

I can't seem to even install the original driver Sad
and I don't want to spend anything since I know its not the mic the problem, any other thing I could try?

If not the mic then the machine?

I like cheap fixes but what is this about the driver not installing?

That's a sign, not a good one.

Not where I'd get the driver.

Since this is usually on the motherboard or in a laptop I get the driver from the machine/motherboard maker. You've chosen the hardest path.

Try easy next time.

And if you want the forums to find it for you, supply machine details. Maybe someone will give you the page if you tell enough.

Time to use the warranty.

It sounds as if it never worked. Make the call to make a claim.

They should walk you through setup etc to avoid the RMA. Either way that is what most folk do next if they don't opt for some USB Mic or sound card.

Just for closure, you tried the maker's drivers, the BIOS, settings are correct and you know which jack to use.
