Question

Microphone only picking up system sound

Jun 14, 2018 7:21AM PDT

I had this problem when I first built my pc. The microphone on my headset would only pic up system sound. I solved this by buying a separator to separate the mic from the headphones so I can plug each into their respective inputs. This worked however, the problem has come back and I don't know what happened. I have updated anything and I'm still using the splitter. It was literally working one second, and then not working another. Anyone else having this problem or know a solution?

Answer
Windows 10 has an annoying habit

Of installing new drivers and undoing your settings. You get to install the driver you know worked and go over the settings again (and again...)

Where can I find previous drivers?
Jun 14, 2018 11:50AM PDT

I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them to the most current version to see if that would fix it. It was already on the most current drivers but I thought the files might have been corrupt. And looking now, I can not find where the previous drivers would be. Thanks for your help!

That I can't answer.

But you built it and made choices back then so try to repeat what you did or just use drivers from the machine's makers.

-> RED FLAG. "most current drivers" is a red flag. Drivers do not wear out. If they work, don't change them unless there is a very good reason. Microsoft hasn't learned this lesson.
