Question

Micro SD Card (can't format or delete files from it)

I have a Nifty Drive with 120gb MicroSD however it does not seem to be working anymore because I can’t delete or add files into the SD Card. When I add something or delete upon switching off and on the MacBook I won’t find those files in a case of added files and the deleted files will be back.

It does not even allow me to format it. I have recently formatted the MacBook thinking that it will solve the problem however that didn’t work. I have also tried by using the normal sd card adaptor on the windows platform but it yields the same results.

I am not sure if this is just a case of a damaged sd card or is this repairable?

(NT) Looks like a damaged card.

Answer
Nod about damage.

The good news here is it didn't take the files with it. Copy them out and replace the card.

Micro SD Card (can't format or delete files from it) - Macbo

However, I have found a solution, and it seems the problem is the SD card slot itself.

On all the SD cards, if I keep the lock slider in between Locked and Unlocked, the computer will see it as read/write. If it's fully at unlocked, it'll be read only.

Locked ___:-:___ Unlocked

Wow.

That actually worked! I've had trouble manipulating files on certain SD cards (not all), and holding the card in solved the problems. Whodathunkit?

Many many times.

Either the old slide switch or a bad card or just need to use some formatter on it. If no one mentioned it above, look for the HP USB FORMATTER.

Method that doesn't work for this question.

I already , used cmd "chkdsk /f drivename:", "Diskpart clean", Ease Us Partition Master , Clear Drive Attribute, SD Card Formatter, Disk Management, Change Disk Letter, Change Disk Type, Repair Disk, Delete Partition, the heck i cannot fix this issue, i hope some one can answer this same question in my mind and this thread,... Confused

Re: method

If you issue is that you can't add or delete files to an SD-card and those other things you mentioned don't work either, it's either the drive that needs to be replaced or the card. Is that a clear answer?

maybe you are right, maybe we should buy a NEW one SD Card ,.. but i don't know why you can delete, add, edit, but reformatting it didn't work , like the methods i mention above,.. i think that SD Card i bought is a FAKE one..

That's new information.

Your subject line referred to "this question". That was the thread starter, and that poster told he couldn't add or delete files. You tell you can. So you have another problem.

However, the solution is the same: throw away.

My weird case about SD Card

you can delete, add, edit, but when you Plug the Drive and Unplug it , but the files still remain in the SD Card. i try to use Ease Us Partition Master which is one of the most powerful software use about partitioning SD Card, SSD or HDD and it didnt work, also i tried to clear attributes of the SD Card but it was not write protected,.. i also used chkdsk on cmd and no error found and Bad Sector Found, in my case it was like this thread Micro SD Card ("can't format" (and do all the formating method ) or delete files from it (for my case the files that i deleted when you unplug and plug it again it's still remain in the storage))

It's stuck on "read only"

I had one that did that. I had to remove the lock slider on it. I then used a pin to move it off the lock position. It worked OK after that.

Last Resort Solution When Your Case Is Like Mine ,.. !!

1. Throw it away.
2. Burn It .
3. Shred it to dust.
4. Buy a new one.
by the way !! thanks for your reply Happy Kees_B have a wonderful day and also, Merry Christmas And Advance Happy New Year ^_^

Reason why?

Same issue is going on with me but I know why I am not able to delete the files however I have not got the solution till yet.

So I used my card with my new android device as internal memory option when you insert your card in to the new device it asks how you would like to use it?
1. As portable memory or 2. Internal memory.
If you have select internal memory and at any point if you remove that card from device before format it in your same device or if you do not reselect that "portable or internal" option before remove card from device than that's happen.

I have formatted my device after removing the card which was selected as internal memory in device. I forgot to change the option. Now If I try to change option its not letting me to do that because I formatted my device. I cant use this sd card anywhere.

I own 2 MicroSD cards in the condition noted.

They have failed. In one case it's dead and gone. The other one you can't write to but the files are there. None of the tools will touch either card.

Nothing mysterious going on here. Flash memory is only good for so many writes and both cards were in my cars in Dash Cameras. About a year or so on each.

buying another SD Card because it was "dead" and "gone" , sad to hear that, does "SD Card " has maximum number of format ?

- Collapse -
It's likely you bought an EBay fake flash?

Google Ebay Fake Flash if you got it from EBay.

- Collapse -
Never heard of a maximum number of formats.

There is a write limit and a well designed card will go read only according to some rules which I won't get into here.

It's better to go read only than corrupt and die.

same problem - still no solution

Having the same problem - can't write/delete anything on SD cards. But the same SD card works fine in a different computer (so before throwing yours away, try it in a different device Happy ).
Also noticed when hooking up a smartphone via USB I can't delete pictures from it('s sd card) either - well must be my computer (lenovo flex 15 win10), tried a whole bunch of things already Sad - nothing
any more suggestions?

tried
- putting lock slider on SD card in center
- gpedit
- SD card Formatter
- registry edit adding StorageDevicePolicies WriteProtect off

same message persists: this disk is write protected. Again, on different computer no problems!
cheers for any other suggestions!

In your case

I'd try another USB card reader. Example picture of said thing. Cheaper than fixing the laptop.

Have you tried another card?

These cards do fail. Can cause some owners to overthink it.

- Collapse -
nope the problem is WIndows 10

I am now pretty sure it is the OS windows 10 that is missing something to allow these micro cards to be modified or formatted... they are the culprit as it is IMPOSSIBLE that all the micros are read only and other sd cards are not.. Microsoft ignores problems.. period.

- Collapse -
Microsoft doesn't write the drivers for these.

So it could be a machine or driver issue. I've had clients that forget that the OS is from one place and the machine and drivers elsewhere.

Unless you have a Microsoft PC like the Surface, yes they ignore such issues.

Answer
This work for me.

I resolve my issue with my SD card by putting the SD card in my camera then reformatting it with my camera. Then when into my MacBook Air and under disk utilities and unmounted and ease it with a new formatted and now the SD card can be used as it is empty now. It was a 256g SD card and didn't want to toss it and replace it with a new one.
