Question

Micro juddering on 4k LG TV 60UH652T

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my LG tv that's driving me nuts. I'm getting micro juddering every 3-5 seconds on playback on my nvidia shield tv on apps like YouTube and kodi. It's not the android device because I've tried on an older lg smart tv i have. I've narrowed it down to the 4k tv itself, if I turn off the tru motion setting it isn't so bad but with it on "clear" its very noticeable. On my older lg smart TV, the trumotion is set to "clear and not a frame skip at all but that's a 1080p TV. So could it be this model 4k TV? I've run out of ideas, is this as good as its going to get?

Also, it even does it when streaming a video over chromecast so its definitely a streaming issue.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Back to LG.

Ask them for a firmware fix as OFF doesn't appear to be off. With motion processing off, judder should never happen (not to get into a debate here.)

Back to LG.

Thanks Proffitt for your reply. Do you really think its a firmware issue? i mean, if i have tru motion selected to OFF, It looks like a 24fps video but the frame skip every 3-5 seconds is not part of the "smooth" 24fps playback that the OFF tru motion option is. It's hard to explain. I've spoken to LG about this and their response was " if you can watch live tv channels with not juddering than its the other device (nvidia shield tv). i guess im gonna have to live with it the way it is.

Thanks for your input.

Yes.

If off doesn't mean off, then it's an issue they need to address.

Since live TV is from other than HDMI then it's comparing different processing systems. I'm sorry they failed you there.

Cable

In reply to: Yes.

Yes i hear you, ill try to interrogate LG once more . Also was just thinking is it possible that the HDMI cable that is being used with the nvidia shield is incompatible? its a HDMI cable that we from my PS4, i believe those cables that PS4 uses are 1.4 with Ethernet? if i was to try a hdmi 2.0 or 2.0a cable, could that possibly stop the 3-5 second frame skip? I'm only saying this because my chromecast does exactly the same thing when i stream a video file from my laptop, the chromecast i have is an old one designed for 1080p, just stabbing in the dark now haha.

Thanks for your input

Never found one HDMI cable to be better or worse.

In reply to: Cable

CNET has dozens of articles about HDMI cables.
https://www.cnet.com/news/4k-hdmi-cables-are-nonsense/

I've taken that to heart and do not overpay for cables. If i need another HDMI cable I get another AmazonBasics HDMI cable. (under 10 bucks.)

-> Streaming is not a good test. We must use content and sources that won't run afoul of other issues. This would be a BluRay player with a known good disc we have tested before.

Youtube video

Ill make a you tube video showing whats going on and that might make things a bit clearer. Only reason i say streaming is because it how i view my content mostly now, this whole situation works fine on my other lg 1080p tv in terms of streaming so its definately something either with the cable, the chromecast when working with a 4k tv or the 4k tv itself doesnt like streaming.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Sorry but as I've seen this hundreds of times

In reply to: Youtube video

My view is it's the same old thing. I have to stick to content I know is solid such as BluRay media or OTA.
