Mic trouble

Sep 5, 2008 7:03AM PDT

I have a security system which consists of 2 cameras running into a DVR. Neither camera has sound, but the DVR has a separate RCA audio line in and line out. I have an external mic that uses a 1/8 connector. I got an 1/8 - RCA adaptor. But when I plug the mic in, I can't get any sound. The mic works on other things, like my computer that accepts 1/8 plugs.
Does this have something to do with running the 1/8 mic TRS to a single RCA? The DVR only has a mono audio input.
Any suggestions?
