Resolved Question

Mic input from Sound Board to Sony HDR-xr260

May 4, 2014 9:37AM PDT

My church's sound board has a left and right monitor out that I send to the external mic input. However, the signal is HOT. All it takes is just a little increase in the monitor output and I overdrive the mic input. I do not have specifics on the sound board, and am probably dealing with an impedance mismatch. Simple solution to me would be to put a resistor in series, but don't have the slightest clue what size/wattage I should use. Does anybody have any ideas?
Would it be better to place a pot in series?
Thanks in advance,

For this a mixer or panel with vu meter would be nice.

Good suggestions

If I didn't already have the sound board your suggestion for the mike input would be great. Thanks. The board has two monitor outputs that I are too hot.
The book looks interesting, I will read up on the subject. Thanks again!

Aha, attenuation is the term I need to learn!

Great suggestion, I will look into this. 25 db sounds like a lot, but like I said all it took was just a slight increase in the outputs and I was pegging the indicators on the camera screen. This might just be the solution I need. With that amount I should have the range of adjustment I need.
Thanks for the "input" LOL!
