Mexican border, next Canada

Minutemen could patrol Canadian border

WASHINGTON (CP) - The Minutemen, a group of civilian volunteers who've been patrolling the Arizona-Mexico border in efforts to catch illegal immigrants, may start monitoring the Canadian border this fall for criminals and terrorists.

"That is entirely possible," said Fred Elbel, spokesman for the Civil Homeland Defense group in Tombstone, Ariz., a related organization.

"But we do not have specific plans yet. It will take a few months for that."

Some northern states have asked for help in setting up volunteer border watches, said Elbel, who added there's been evidence terrorists have tried to cross both the Canadian and Mexican borders.

The Minutemen have been criticized as vigilantes by President George W. Bush and Mexican President Vincente Fox has threatened to prosecute them.

But they've been receiving more favourable attention lately from some U.S. politicians.

Put up a sign at the border, explaining that FREE benefits are better in Canada and offer them bus fare up there! You guy's might be closing your borders too when they take your jobs and put their kids in school at your expense!

It's not

the benefits that they seek, but work.

that it can be misleading. But my recollection of S Cal is just that. A few, of course turned to crime.
I remember other mojado.-related crimes: Hire some of them off street corners- like floating hiring agencies- get them to work on your property all day (some were skilled), then dump them back on the corner without pay. "Don't like it, Chico? Go call a cop!"

Man who snuck into Canada won't go to jail

After sneaking across the border in bone-chilling weather to meet his Internet sweetheart, Charles Gonsoulin has learned that love can sometimes hurt.

The Los Angeles-born maintenance man pleaded guilty Monday to illegally entering Canada. He will be deported, but not before having all of his fingers and half of his toes amputated because of severe frostbite

about patroling the Canadian border I thought about the pictures I saw of the civilian patrols on the Mexican border.

They showed pictures of people sitting around a campfire and it looked kinda nice.

The picture that comes to my mind patroling the Canadian border, is black flies in the summer and freezing in the winter.

No problem Glenda, we'll take em all, so long as there are
Apr 23, 2005 6:24PM PDT

no guns involved. Give em jobs and healthcare too.

Gun-toters go right back south where they belong, Tom Delay being so proud of the concealed weapon state and all.

trains from Mexico to Canada filled with illegals, as long as there are provisions to keep them from getting off. Lobby your government! Go to it!

Read up on what is happening in the Phoenix area! We have houses full of illegals that have been brought over by the coyotes! Check out how many of them have guns! Or check on how many road chases happen with vans full of illegals and the dangers they cause!

"go ahead; break the law."

The law
Apr 21, 2005 9:53PM PDT

Maybe the law is the issue here? Just because there is a law doesn't mean that it is a good law!

- Collapse -
Even if it's a bad law...
Apr 21, 2005 10:13PM PDT

in YOUR opinion, that doesn't give you the right to break it with impunity. Breaking ANY law has consequences.

- Collapse -
OK so
Apr 21, 2005 10:47PM PDT

if it was law to not kiss a woman in public, would you obey just because it's law?I am aware of the fact that you would get fined/arrested if that was the case, but I doubt that everyone follows every law!

There is no law against thorowing away batteries on the street.Do you still do that being educated that the acid will affect the water that we drink, just because it's no law?No law against a lot of things, but we still have a concience, hopefully!

SPOUS

- Collapse -
Ummmm, those are not good examples.
Apr 21, 2005 11:18PM PDT

Most people, at least those I see, do not engage in kissing on the street.

I've never seen anyone discard a lead acid battery on the street, and there are laws regarding acceptable disposal of such batteries.

(NT) You know very well what I tried to say!
Apr 21, 2005 11:24PM PDT
- Collapse -
Well, I guess you are trying to say we should ignore the law
Apr 22, 2005 3:28AM PDT

but you have failed to support that contention. There is no fundamental human right to illegally cross the border into the United States. The United States, for a variety of reasons, has a strong interest in deciding who may enter her territory, and use her resources. Lawbreakers attempt to avoid that decision, and take what they want. They should be stopped.

Yes, if I didn't want to be punished...
Apr 21, 2005 11:20PM PDT

or if I thought the best way to change the law was civil disobedience, which carries with it the possibility of being arrested and punished. I don't think illegal immigrants are performing acts of civil disobedience.

I think it IS illegal in most places, not to mention stupid to dump old batteries in the street. I don't think what you are trying to say makes a whole lot of sense. No one should do harmful things whether there is a specific law against them or not. How is that relevant to the illegal immigration issue?

What country allows people to enter without permission or to work or get benefits without proper documentation. Is it unreasonable to expect that in the USA?

- Collapse -
well laws have to be passed
Apr 21, 2005 11:33PM PDT

and there is a law against trowing batteries in to the street its called littering fines and more.

and if you have a law take the system to court.

theres a law against robbing does that mean you just rob someone because you dont have there money?

- Collapse -
bull its a great law send them back to mecico the country
