I didn't know what Metacafe was so I visited their web site. I didn't see that they required any software to download, so I am not sure what you mean. There is something called MetacafePro, but you don't mention that.
Metacafe allows visitors to watch "streaming video" clips of movies, games, TV shows etc, and there is nothing to download. The videos are streamed to the browser. If your browser is having problems streaming the videos, then this looks like a problem with the Flash plugin.
I didn't check, but I would guess that Metacafe considers they hold copyright on their video material, so attempting to download content from them would be against their TOS.
