When I send a message, it sends, but stays in the outbox instead of moving to sent items. this means that each time the mail is checked, it sends another copy. we have several computers on the same router, with the same mail server, so the problem is not likely with the provider

If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd really appreciate it. Tried everything in the post above, didn't work. But then again that's for messages stuck in the outbox and they don't get sent. My messages actually do get sent, they just don't move from the outbox to the sent items folder. Using outlook express 6, winXP, sp2.
Almost immediately after posting the last comment I got it to work correctly. This is gonna sound incredibly dumb, but all I did was go into 'tools', 'options', 'send' tab, uncheck the box that says "save copy of sent messages in the sent items folder", hit 'apply', recheck the box, hit 'apply', 'ok' and then it seemed to work fine.
I have the same problem but have been unable to fix it using djhaps' solution.
Unchecking the "save copy of sent messages in the sent items folder" works but unfortunately when I re-check the same box the problem re-occurs.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
