Question

Message saying I need to update my browser?

Jun 30, 2019 2:20AM PDT

System: Dell Inspiron, running Windows 10 (fully updated).

Problem: Recently, after installing a VPN software package, My wife and I have repeatedly received error messages saying that we need to upgrade our web browsers - which makes no sense. I also occasionally get messages stating the browser can't open the page, especially on redirects from Facebook.

OK, what gives? A bad OS? Malware (although scans keep coming back clean)? I'm lost here. Please advise!

You left out a small detail.

What browsers does this happen on?

Also, some sites don't like VPNs and cough up errors. The error may not be truthful or correct.

I do not suspect malware here.

I have seen the same error when it is actually the app, utility or whatever you are trying to run that needs the update because it is no longer compatible after the latest browser update.

I've Seen The Same Message With IE on a Bank Site I Use
Jul 2, 2019 11:35AM PDT

The message I'm seeing is actually part of the bank's webpage and it only appears when I use Internet Explorer to open the site. It says that "although Internet Explorer meets our minimum requirements", they would prefer you choose a different browser. Apparently, they don't like IE or they're getting kickbacks for advertising something other than a Microsoft product because "Edge" from MS isn't one of the browsers they recommend either.

Hope this helps.
