Message from Spybot Search and destroy

I just downloaded the free version of spybot search and destroy. There were a number of things to be fixed and a window popped up with the following.

An important registry entry has been changed. Do I want to allow or deny the change.

Category: System Startup User Entry
Change: Value added
Entry: SpybotDeleting B4140
New Data: Command/c del "C:\Program Files\search and destroy\search and destroysetup Log.txt"
Allow or Deny Change?

I don't understand what this means. If someone has an answer very soon, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
JJ

The message is simply asking if ...

In reply to: Message from Spybot Search and destroy

you want spybot search and destroy to create a registry entry to allow it to delete its own setup log.

All you need to do is "tell it" yes or no. Neither answer will cause you any problems.

Thank you for your help. You needn't answer this, but if it makes no difference, I'm wondering why they even ask. I will put yes. Thanks again. JJ

I just allowed the registry entry change, a window popped up near the clock area and acknowledged that I allowed the change, but now the original popup window where I clicked to allow the change will not go away. I restarted my computer and it's still there. I'm wondering if I should uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy and re-install it, but I wonder if even then, the offending window would disappear. Help, Please.

Which Version Of Spybot? ? And...

In reply to: The message is simply asking if

...have you tried disabling the "realtime" scanning options of "TeaTimer" and "SDHelper"? If you recently downloaded and installed Spybot, you're probably using the new 1.6.0 version.. Correct? If you install the "default" with Spybot S&D, it enables the realtime options above.. It is possible to disable them and use Spybot as a manual scanner only and doing so may fix your issue..

To do so, open Spybot, then click on the "Mode" menu in the upper left, choose "Advanced".. Next, on the left side, click on "Tools" tab, then click on the "Resident' icon.. UNCHECK both boxes listed there. Close Spybot and restart the computer..

If you still can't get rid of the popup, try restarting into Safe Mode, then eliminate the popup by using Task Manager to close the process, IF it's still running.

Hope this helps.

I completely uninstalled Spybot and it was the version, you mentioned. I will install it again and follow your directions and see how that works. Thank you for that information.

You will always get messages like those when something in your registry changes...

for example try changing your homepage - you will see that spybot will come with another window of those asking if you want to allow it or not.

Hope I Helped You!

Thanks for that information.

I downloaded Spybot again but this time left out the Tea Timer which someone mentioned to be a potential problem with Defender and I've had no more issues.

Grif, you may want to mention that...

...it's not usually good policy to run two or more real time scanners (e.g., Tea Timer and Windows Defender or something like Spyware Doctor's On Guard function) simultaneously. They have a tendency to go to war with each other...
