merantz 660 vs ediral r1

Aug 30, 2005 4:13AM PDT

i record 10 one hr lectures a week and im looking to get the best digital recorder while spending the least money, it seems the merantz 660 or ediral r1 are the best 2.
can these machines record in small wavs or if recorded in mp3 than there is a conversion to wav to edit and than back to mp3 to use, where you get backroud hiss from the conversion.
does anyone know a better way to do this or which machine would be better?
