Question

memory

Jul 20, 2017 2:37PM PDT

I couldn't locate the manual for the laptop on Asus. It is an Asus Ultrabook S550C. I do know it says the max is 8 gigs. I used beleric to find out the settings. It usually tells you what memory slots is taken and what is free but on this laptop, it doesn't say. It just says it was 6 gigs of memory. I didn't open it up to check. Since it didn't say anything about a second slot, I figured it only had one. I went to crucial but they said they didn't have memory for it (which didn't make sense) I ended up getting the memory from another place. When I opened the laptop to install the memory, there was two slots. One had a memory card in it and the other didn't. I assumed the card was a 6 gig memory card. I took it out and put the 8 gig in it. The system booted up and Windows is reporting 10 gigs. I looked at the memory I took out and it is a 4 gig stick. apparently 2 gigs is built in. So when I added the 8, it is now 10 gigs. I am fine with that. It is working fine so far. If it stays working, I will be happy and leave as it is. I have never loaded more than the max allowed before and was wondering if it will stay working or stop. I can return it but if I hold on to it, I won't be able to. The memory didn't cost much so I will probably just leave it in but was curious if anyone has experienced this and had luck having more then what the system says is the max. Thank you for your time

And then what is supported.

My advice, leave it installed and call it a day.

there is no reason to put more RAM to pc than it says it can handle.
too much to explain but it does not give more power no matter if u get 100000 RAM to lap or just 8.
just does not work that way.
