Since the OS may be at fault as the BIOS reports 2GB we have a few other tests.
1. The boot to the UBUNTU CD (no install required.)
2. And something I forgot. The old clean up the PC item -> http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11319_7-6240575-1.html

PS. Dell staffers don't show here anymore.
I upgraded the memory in my dell dimension 3000 from 512KB to 2GB (the max upgrade). I bought the memory modules directly from Dell, so I know they're the correct ones. The Manufacturer part number is SNPJ0203C/1G. The Dell Part # is A0740389. At first when I tried installing the new memory, the computer did not boot up after the new chips were in. Then I tried running the computer when only one chip was in at a time (tried both chips individually in both slots). One chip, the computer booted up fine when it was in either slot. The second chip, the computer only booted up in one of the slots, but not the other. So I left the second chip in the slot that it worked in, and installed the first chip in the other slot. Now the computer isn't any faster, it is actually a little slower, and it froze on me a couple times which didn't happen when the old RAM was in. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to pay Dell a $50 one time support fee for them to not be able to help me out. Thanks.
