Memory Upgrade

Sep 30, 2006 10:45PM PDT

Hi,

I have a QDI Advance 10F motherboard, which according to the manufactures website indicates that it can support up to 1.5GB SDRAM. I currently have 256MB of RAM, and there are 3 slots in total. However i ran a system scan via the Crucial Systems website and it indicates that the maximum amount of memory i can have in my machine is 512MB. I?m a little confused as to the amount of memory i can add to the board, could anyone advise???

Also one extra question, when im looking at potential RAM, there are always 2 options 32Meg x 64 or 32Meg x 72, could anyone please advise on the difference?

Thanks.

What memory you need...

I checked out the website myself and reviewed the system board manual. It says that you need 168 pin 3.3V unbuffered 100/133MHz DIMM sockets. According to page 24 of your manual, you'll need to match the correct speed with the speed of your CPU.

Since I don't know about this Crucial Systems website, I would take the manufacturer's information as gospel and only rely on 3rd party company's information as a back-up or tertiary in support, so I would presume that the 1.5MB maximum is the right number.

As far as the memory configurations go, the 32M x 64 is the one you want as it is the unbuffered one. The 32M x 72 has ECC error correcting built into the modules, which your system board doesn't support.

I hope this helps.

Only thing is ...if a MB has 3 DIMM slots and each can take

512MBs ... doesn't always mean it will work with the 3 DIMMs at once. And if he's running Win95 or Win98...it won't work with over 512MBs RAM anyway.

If you buy directly from Crucial based on the part number for your specific product they guarantee what they sell you will work.
