Memory Problem Asrock Conreo 945g-dvi

Jan 31, 2011 2:04PM PST

Hi,

Please help with a quick question. I have been trying to figure it out for ages. I have an Asrock conroe 946-dvi motherboard and I built the computer. Also have an Nvidia 9500GT graphics card. Bios Version 1.10 ftp://174.142.97.10/manual/ConRoe945G-DVI.pdf

I have Windows 7 64bit dualbooted with Vista 32 and I mainly use 7 64bit.

I have installed 4GB Ram (2GB and 2GB in Dual Channel as same size, speed and brand). However it shows as 4GB Ram and only 3.12GB usable in Windows 7.

I also have a Nvidia 9500 GT Graphics Card if that has anything to do with it.

Can you tell why it is showing 3.12GB and how I can get it to use 4GB?
I have already looked for something saying Memory Mapping in the bios but could not see the option

Thanks

That's proper for 32 bit operating systems.

The good news is it's well discussed. Your machine should be fine in 64 bit versions of Windows but and if that video card is on a PCI bus I wonder.

Thanks for your response.

The Nvidia 9500GT graphics card is in a pci express slot if that helps.

But adding more detail to my first post.

It also shows (3200mb Ok) during startup of the computer during POST.

Do you know why this may be happening

Since the BIOS is showing this much, then Windows is not the issue. Talk to the maker of the board for a BIOS update to gain access to the last amount of ram.

The 3.12GB usable limit showing for 64bit win 7

Probably indicates that it has been set as a boot option for vista 32bit using the Truncatememory switch available in BCDeditor and in a dualboot environment the boot options are common to both OSs unless specifically identified with one or the other.

I say 'probably' because I have, as yet, not tested the theory but I will, eventually.

WARNING, BCDeditor is a very powerful tool that can quickly render a system unloadable and cause the loss of all data, so be very careful.

Now that you know they are limited by the chipset you know why and that this will not be fixed.
