memory - how to install/what to buy

Jul 28, 2007 7:32AM PDT

I have a 2002 dell dimension desktop pentium 4 w/ 256 mb/ram. It seems that I am nearly out of memory. I've used add/remove to get rid of programs, but then when I look at program files, they programs still seem to be there so I delete them again to the recycle bin.

Even w/ removing programs, I'll still need more memory. Don't have a clue as to where to start - what to buy (how much more memory). Will it be easy to install? Thanks.

Memory or storage?

You start off talking about RAM/Memory, but then go on to describe storage.

RAM/Memory is a short term storage area that computer uses for running programs. Longer term storage is like the hard drive, where programs and other files are stored.

Which one are you talking about? It makes a BIG difference.

I don't know which it is - when I click on C: drive/properties - it shows that I only have 3.1 GB of space left on the local disk. Plus my computer is very slow...
