Memory Foam Mattress Topper -- An Update

In Charlie's mattress thread I had mentioned purchasing a memory foam mattress topper.

I purchased mine online from Kohl's. Here is a link to the one I got (BTW, I got a slightly better deal cuz they were 50% off for the last sale).

The memory foam is about 1-1/2 inch thick. It fits in a cover that unzips 3 sides (easy to get in), is high quality cotton, and adds another 1" or so of quilted polyfill on top.

We have a "generic" brand top of the line Firm mattress set right now. Bought at a chain called Bob's Discount Furniture where the big sales pitch is that his mattresses are made by the famous "S" brand. By "top of the line" I mean we got Bob's best.

So here's my verdict. GREAT!!!!!!!

First off, this mattress topper is extremely comfortable even if I didn't have a bad back. And I would say more comfortable than the pillowtop mattresses I've slept on or tried out in the stores. It did take a little getting used to for my hubby who informed me that he used to "bounce" a little to turn over. Apparently the first night he tried to do that and ended up falling on his face -- LOL wish I was awake to see that! But once you get used to this, it's really not difficult to move around, and as my hubby probably qualifies as a "big guy" (~230 lbs right now) he is a reasonable guage for maneuverability. How this would compare to a complete memory foam mattress I have no idea, I also don't know if this would work with a softer mattress.

After sleeping on this for several nights now, my back no longer hurts when I wake up in the morning. As a bonus, both my hubby and I have found that our other sore joints feel better too! My knee has been acting up and his ankle has been bugging him. It seems to have lessened both of our pain. Even despite having to fight for room between my hubby and the cat (who BTW has been trying his darndest to put a permanent cat shaped imprint on the thing!) I am also sleeping much better.

It wasn't cheap, but certainly cheaper than a new mattress. That cover on the particular one I purchased would probably cost $40 on sale so it was a really good deal IMO. It worked for my sister and her husband, and appears to be the solution for us. Thus I offer my one vote for the memory foam mattress topper!
