memory error 128..help?

I have an IBM 300PL
M/T 6862-N9u
S/N 237XC91
BIOS VER> NVKT58AUS
Win2000pro
O.S.Ver. 5.00.2195
Mem...128 MB{2-64MB cards...1 empty slot
Now...I want more mem..so I perchased a Kingston 128R Dimm,,the guy said it should work...I researched it...it should...so i stuck it in and...win said...mem error256...and proseeded to reboot..over and over...I found I should tell win. to recognize it?!?How the heck do i get into bios and [someone said cmos,also]and then what??Pleeeeeze?! IBM is no help..they say how to install it but thats all...I need details on what to do ...if someone would be so kind...?.thankyou!

Remove the stick you just installed. If the computer is fine afterwards, then you have a bad RAM stick. Which is weird because Kingston is a good brand...........

Hi! thanks for the response!...Well I gave up trying to install the mem. and took my comp to my trusty Guru..well the mem card was for a 300 somthing,and my comp. is a 100 [somthing]...so he installed the correct "stick" and now it zoooooooms! I love it..I will eventually install all 768 mb.thanks!
