Memory card error using a Canon PowerShot A95

I have had this camera for about a year, along with this memory card. The memory card is a 256 MB compact flash card. For some reason, the camera gives me the error message "Memory Card Error." I inserted a different memory card (512 MB)and my camera read its contents, but it will not read (display) any photos from the 256 MB card. Can the 256 MB card be saved? Or am I SOL?

Step one is to format the card with the camera.

If the camera will not let you format the card you will need a card reader.

With a card reader, see if the computer can read the card. If it can.....delete all files and folders the computer can find on the card. Do not delete them to the recycle bin, hold down the Shift key before clicking delete. Then put the card back in the camera and format it with the camera.
Note: Do not format the card with the computer.
