Memorex injet printable cds? not burning!

Dec 3, 2004 3:38PM PST

Okay...I just spent some cash buying an Espon printer that will print on injet printable cds...and so I bought some CDs as well. Memorex.... and I've already buggered up 2 of the things trying to get them to burn. I've tried Roxio, Windows Media and I'm about to try a couple more of the programs I have around..but does anyone have any words of wisdom or advice? Anyone have any experience with these CD's??
Any help would be much appreciated.
I am running XP with a Mitsumi CR-48x5TE...maybe the burner is the problem?
Thanks in advance...
Laura

I do not have that brand of CDR or your CDRW drive. However I do have some "lame" CDR media that is almost see-through compared to some other make media. That media appears to have "issues". I'm not going to write much here, but a label on that media has caused playback issues. And on one CDR, when I pulled off the label as I've done hundreds of times before on other media the record surface delaminated. Lesson? For that cheap media, I use another label system I have that appears to not interfere and those are going out as demo CDs which I don't care to last for long.

I did try the full paper CD white label on such and it didn't seem to interfere.

Research showed that putting labels on CDs accelerated

their deterioration. A CD has a VERY thin layer where the label is applied. The Epson printer tries to get around that problem by printing on the CD without using a label. However, the CD must have a surface that can be printed on. You should NEVER attempt to remove a label from a CD.

That said, I would try some Maxells. IMO the Maxells are very reliable. If there is a problem with your drive, the use of a second brand will help show that. If the Maxells work OK, perhaps you should find a second brand that makes printable CDs.

Are you printing on the label before you burn the cd? If so that's your problem. You must burn the CD first, then print. I also have an Epson and have no problem burning. However, the first time I used it I printed on the cd then burned it and received an error message. Then I read the instructions which clearly said to "burn first, then print". Since then, no problems at all. I use the memorex with no problem and it is compatable with my DVD player. I burn with Roxio, and make the CD/DVD's labels with the Epson software. Good luck
