I just emailed a member an email on May 26, 2007.
His last post was listed as Oct. 2006. The member has over 9,000 posts.
Just curious about all the wrong member profiles not being update by CNET.
Anything that can be done to correct this problem?

I think Lee will need more details Kevin
May 26, 2007 6:57PM PDT

The user's name or a link to his profile. Perhaps send it to Lee privately rather than posting the details here in public.

Also, are you saying that this member has not posted since Oct 2006, but up to then he had posted over 9,000 posts?

Or are you saying that he has posted since Oct 2006, but they are not showing up in his profile?

More details?
May 27, 2007 3:23PM PDT

?Mark,
Why in the world would you think that my post is private information to begin with? It is a problem with the engineering department.

Why would I give a members name or personal info to you on CNET?
(NO WAY!) His Posting has not been updated since Oct. 2006.
He is a regular contributing member here on the FF and has over 90K posts up to 2006 on CNET. He is a very active contributor. Even today.

Why would I ask Lee Koo? Lee Koo never, ever, answers email due to the fact fact he receives over 600 emails per day.
That is fact and Lee told me while we were in Braintree, MA. a few years ago. Seems nothing has changed
Ask Lee if that is so.

The updates on CNET do not work as designed with members profiles.

How long have I known John Wilkenson and how long have I known Pudgyone?
I think a long time. And friends, as I might add.

The updates with CNET member profiles are screwed up.

Go to my profiles as well. I would rather join the Barnum & Baily Circus than put up with member profile updates.

Just think what John Wilkenson feels missing out on NOT being a member for so long.

?Mark, Thank you,

Ummm. How about Robert's 79,566 posts

Perhaps I mis-read the original question.
May 27, 2007 10:11PM PDT

I thought Kevin was asking about a problem with a particular member's profile, the one he had emailed.

That's why I suggested he give Lee more details so that Lee and the others in Admin could look at the specific case.

Looking at Bob's profile I see he last posted yesterday, 5/27 so his looks up to date. I wonder if he logs off the CNET forums when he is done for the day then logs back on the next time he visits. That might explain why he is up to date. But that's just speculation.

YAPG (Yet another profile glitch)

Happened to notice it yesterday when I browsing some Meet the Moderators profiles.

Mark, it is not Bob Proffit's profile that i am talking?

about. A different member.

That is my original post to FF.

Mark, Bob Proffitt is my hero. We both live in Taxachussets.

I did make a typo on the last post to you. Should have beem 9K. Not 90K posts.
That is such a funny photo of Bob Proffitt from his youth it seems.

Thanks, You made my day.

I have been posting almost every day, at least once, even made one on

Profile isn't working correctly, I guess.

That's one of my complaints...
May 27, 2007 12:35PM PDT

It's currently designed to update the 'last online' only when the member logs in, not when posting, which is why I went 5 months one time without ever 'being online.' Plain

I came here to the forums. I am at work, working Memorial Day(5/28/2007).

I looked at my member profile today and I am going back in time.

The work computer reads

Home computer said yesterday(5/27/2007)

I guess I will just have to sing your favorite Cher song.

Could it be a cookie?
May 27, 2007 10:06PM PDT

Perhaps a different cookie on each computer, at work and at home.

What happens if you log off the CNET forums at work, then log back on?

I logged off at home today

When I usually go on, I use Mozilla Firefox and I use this url.

http://forums.cnet.com/?tag=navtab

Mozilla Firefox will then ask me for my password, then I'm in.

My guess would be a cookie(chocolate chip, I hope).

To fix the problem, logging out removes the cookie.

Can they have it so closing a tab and/or window would remove the cookie?

I never had to deal with cookies, at the website I used to take care of, so I don't know the answer to this. Or maybe they could make the cookie expire after a set time, say 7 or 8 hours(for John and you MarkFlax, it would have to be 23 hours and 59 minutes. This would give you both 1 minute for rest and/or silence. Then you'd only have to log in once a day) The may even want to make the cookies last a smaller amount of time.

Get the engineers busy fixing the cookies, I'll take a dozen or three.

Home alone?
May 28, 2007 8:44AM PDT

Rick, The member with 9K posts has the problem with updated profiles.
Feel lucky you are listed as of May, 28, 2007.
Our friend's profile is listed at last being online as of July, 2006.

I want the original Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies by the way. They were created by a woman in the next town to me. Whitman, MA.

Love cookies
May 28, 2007 12:16PM PDT

The person you emailed probably never signed out. The cookies keep them logged in, so their number of posts and when they last logged in are not updated.

Please send the cookies to:

PudgyOne
Lancaster, Pa.

sorry, the Post Office doesn't know me as this. My mailman might figure out the Pudgy part.

Rick

Rick you are correct --if the person never logs out
May 30, 2007 2:48AM PDT

and has remembered me check, the members last logged in date will stay and won't update until they blow away their cookies or log out manually.

It's minor bug since the launch of the profile page... but has never been a high priority to fix over other bugs. Let me see what we can do to correct this.

Thanks!

My WAG for the fix would be
May 30, 2007 9:51AM PDT

to expire the cookies daily. Then they get a new cookie the next day. Please make mine chocolate chip.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, Thanks for finding the fix. I never knew that as well as many others here probably never knew either.
And the flying cows. Now, where are the flying pigs?

Rick, You could go on to be an engineer at CNET. :
