The term "alphanumeric" would typically mean, from the name itself, that words are sorted by the letters of the alphabet significance (letter A is before letter B, etc.) and then after the Z the numbers are given significance, with 0 being the first number on up to 9.
However, most systems that have alphanumeric sequence generally have the numbers first. For those systems a better term might be "numerbetical" or "numberalphabetical" or something like that.
(But that is just my opinion, they call it whatever they want.)
There is another method, and I sort of coined the term, "ASCIIbetical" which follows the ASCII value assigned to every character (Google: ASCII) and the lowest values have the higher significance.
Thus, the sequence is like this:
!"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABC...XYZ[\]^_`abc...xyz{|}~
(I replaced some sequence of characters in the alphabet with "..." ellipsis characters here).
