mei.net icon lost

by jam4201 / February 4, 2006 11:14 PM PST

Morning. My friend has lost her mei.net icon (this his her dialup to get on the net) from her desktop. She's a newbie and doesn't know how to find it and put it back on her desktop. I'm an oldie and I don't know either as I have DSL. I know nothing about her computer either. Can anyone help? Thanks.

First, have her open her Recycle Bin and see if the shortcut (an icon is just the image displayed...a shortcut is a link to launch the program) is there. If so, select the shortcut, right-click it, and select Restore.

If it's not in the recycle bin, have her double-click My Computer and type "C:\Program Files" into the address bar, without those quotation marks. Once there, have her look for a folder called Mei.net or something else related to her internet service provider. Double-click it to open it and look for the application. It will most likely have the same icon as the shortcut that was deleted from her desktop. Have her right-click that and select copy, then right-click her desktop and select "paste shortcut." That should restore the link to launch her internet service like she did before.

Hope this helps,
John

Left click Start. Go to Control Panel > right click > right Network Connections > left click on the File menu > left click on New Connection and follow the instructions in the New Connection Wizard.

Hope this helps

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
