Media Player is trying to access a web site when I start it

Apr 27, 2005 8:25AM PDT

Greetings,

When I start Media Player 10 a "Security Warning" box appears and states:

"The current Web page is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this?

Current site: go.microsoft.com
Trusted site: wwp.musicmatch.com

I would rather the player not attempt to go to any site unless I configure it or otherwise specify for it to do so. How can I control this?

Regards,
vvmoore

Not sure about WMP 10
Apr 27, 2005 8:42PM PDT

but normally you can configure WMP not to access the internet.

EG: Open WMP, and goto Tools > Options. In the "Player" tab, make sure that "Connect to the internet" is not ticked.

But with WMP there are other places where you need to check/uncheck options, eg under the "Media Library" tab, there is an option to "Automatically add purchased music to my library". Now, this may not access the internet itself, but if you have also got the option on the same tab, "Update my music files (WMA and MP3 files) by retrieving missing media information from the internet" ticked, then WMP may well try to access the internet for any new music CD's you purchase.

Keep checking the tabs.

Mark

hmmm--I'm not sure about opening no pages, but you might try the drop-down at the top right--you should at least be able to change it to one of their preset destinations.--Neo

RE: Windows Media Trying to access site...
May 16, 2005 7:31PM PDT

i had the same problem-every time i launched msn i got a security warning from win media player. couldn't figure it out, called tech support and he sent me here! i tried the suggestions, but nothing worked, even removed the musicmatch plugin, but it came back the next time i opened. unchecked everything and nothing worked so finally i just started hitting buttons to see what they did and i found something that fixed it. in the top right corner of windows media player, there's a few tabs that say music, radio, etc, and a circle with an arrow in it. i hit that and you could pick from different music, radio, shopping channels. i set it to msn-since it's microsoft i figured it would be redirecting back to itself and quit bugging me with warnings and that did it. hasn't popped up since! hopes this helps if none of the others worked for you.

Your discovery worked!

I had that idea but did not select MSN. That was apparently the right choice.

Thanks!

I spent more time than I should hve (probably 8^) trying to fix this annoyance. Finally, I simply just check the 'Work Offline' selection ffom the file menu.
