Media Player/ Inconsistent Burns

May 27, 2005 1:47AM PDT

Really like the Media Player in XP, and have taken to burning copies of my CDs to take in the car.

Most of the CDs I burn will have several tracks that cannot be played by the car player. It is quite erratic, tracks being ''ok'' some of the time. These same copies will run just fine in the computer CD player/ burner.

Older machine: Dual P3s @ 450MHz. 768 MB Ram. Two Hard Drives 20 GB & 13 GB. ATI Xpert 2000 (32MB) Video Card. Creative SB LIve Sound Card.
Norcent CD Burner (52 x 24 x 52)

Any suggestions?

1. Record it again at 2X speed.
2. Use something like CDBURNERXP.
3. Try another make of media.
4. NEVER try that all black media.
5. NEVER try it on CDRW media.
6. Not all car CD players accept CDR material. The reasons why are in the CDR FAQ.

Black Media

May I ask what is wrong with the black CD's? I seem to be able to use them without problems.

Other than that, it does work.

1. Yep, I slowed it way down to 2x and all seems much better. Still get an occasional "skip", but the in car dc is accepting my work (Amazingly, its a 12 year old Bose unit!).

2. Will try CDBURNERXP next time around.

3 Using Memorex 52x media. Will "explore" others.

4. Unlike McGoon, I have not run across allblack media.

5. Did try CDRW, just once, complete flop! (Before my initial entry.)

6. ok

Once again, thank you, Bob.

Thanks also to McGoon & Loller.

If u burn a MP3 to a CD it wont work. Make sure youre Music is in Audio-CD Format. Then use the media player to burn. - frank

Media Player/Incon...........

I used to get this happening if I was not careful to set the burn speed down to something my CD-RW could run, ie, a 52x24x52 CD-RW will record at 24x Max. A lot of
programs will use 32x or more if you do not set them for the speed you need. Now, no more problems.
