A cure so far.

For me, my cure was to not use WMP. I've yet to find solid fixes to WMP issues. It seems to be a work in progress and "unreliable."

-> To playback MPEGs I use MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC which I can find with google.com

Best of luck and remember I will not offer a fix for WMP since I've found such to be a tarpit of issues. I let others do that.

I had the same thing happen when I tried to play video om WMP10 - it turned out I just needed to download the XVID codec - then everything worked fine. Check out this page, in case: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
