Media player 9 problems

Hi,

I have Media Player 9 on my laptop. After I had to revert my drive to an earlier date, the media player stopped playing DVDs. I tried to delete the media player with the intention of reinstalling. But when I tried I was told that media player 9 hotfix (kb blah blah blah) should not be removed otherwise several other programs would not work properly. So, how can I get my media player to play dvds again?

Simplest options please because I'm not a technological wizard (obviously!)
