Time to return it or get it fixed in warranty.
One thing I always do is replace the remote's battery first.

I'm not at all sure if this is the right place to ask or not but anyway. Basically I have an HP desktop(http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3740154) running Windows 7 that I use as a Media Center PC connected to my TV. The PC came with a media center remote control(https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf-JAVA/Doc/images/934/c00853912.jpg) when I bought it, the tower has an IR receiver in the front on the memory card reader.
Now, the remote works but if I press a few buttons in quick succession, say I'm flicking through a list of videos by hitting the right arrow. If I do it enough time, eventually the computer just stops responding to the button press. I can see the computer is still receiving the button press as the red light on the front lights up. But the action isn't carried out. I end up having to wait maybe 30 second to a minute for that button to start working again. Sometimes it stops after only 4 or 5 pushes over a short period of time. It's not a problem specific to media center either as I installed a different media center type program at one point and the remote did the same thing.
I've no idea where to start fixing it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
E
