Media Adapter vs Windows Media Center Extender

Nov 25, 2005 4:01AM PST

I have an XP Desktop PC running Window Media Center. My ultimate goal is to be able to have access to all of my music and pictures on my PC via my TV and stereo in different rooms in the house. The solution doesn't have to be wireless, but it is an option since I already have a Lynksys wireless access point.

Ideally, I want the ability to play all songs and playlists on my PC through my stereo. If I don't go with the MCE, I want to be able to see the songs/playlists on something other than the TV itself (ie - a small device near the stereo) if possible. Does anyone make a audio receiver with this ability built it?

I already have an HD compatible DVR so I really don't get a lot of use out of the built in Media Center TV recording. Thus, one of the main selling points of a Media Center Extender goes out the door. I'm wondering if I should just go with a Wireless Media Adapter or a DAR?
