Me to XP - three upgrade questions

Nov 29, 2004 8:01AM PST

I am considering upgrading my system from Me to XP and was wondering about the following points:

1. I have heard that XPpro is better than home. What are the dis/advantages?

2. I currently use word and office 2000, can I continue to use them on XP?

3. My wife has XPhome running on a Japanese OS on her laptop. I use a Korean OS on my desktop and would naturally upgrade to the Korean version of XP. Someone suggested to me that we could change my wife's XP from Japanese to Korean OS by inserting the Korean startup disk for XP and re-writing over the OS. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks!

For the home user the Home Edition should suffice. Pro's main advantage over HE is to allow logon to a Domain Server. But it's considerably more $$$ than HE

2. I currently use word and office 2000, can I continue to use them on XP?
Yes.

Check in the Contol Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Supplemental language support
Here there are two options:
* Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages.
* Install files for East Asian languages.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought there were other differences, namely relating to memory use between home and pro. Thanks.

Further to question three...we have tried this but all of the major funtions and operations still remain in the Japanese format. The computer can read and input Korean which is fine, but we would prefer to have the whole system running in Korean if possible. Makes things easier to read and fix, especially when there is a system problem. So, any further pointers?

Thanks
