You'll back up what you can't lose, then try System Restore.
16 colors can be the motherboard drivers and/or the video drivers are corrupt. Microsoft doesn't install these for you. You have to download and install them.

Hi,
I have an HP 800mhz, 356mbram, w/ 40gig hard drive ME system and I have just encountered the following problem. When I booted up the computer I received the following error "Rundll has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL. Rundll will now close. Restart if you continue having problems." I also encountered the following problems. 1) the setting changed so that I am not seeing but 16 colors and the screen size changed. I also lost the use of my mouse.
I accessed the internet with another system to refresh myself with the keyboard hot keys, when I started troubleshooting the Me maching I found a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager under mouse input devices. Also, when I went to change the settings, the moment I clicked on the settings box, the screen went black and I had to reboot. So, I pulled out another mouse and loaded the drivers for it, and the new mouse works, however, I am still getting the error message and the screen goes black when I select the setting tab.
Fortunately, because my system started crashing fairly regularly a few weeks ago, I have bought a new system with the thought that I would clean all of the files off of the Me system and wipe the hard drive, and upgrade the OS, unfortunately I haven't finished moving everything. I am afraid I have picked up a bug and do not want to move it to my machine.
Question - how do I fix the Me machine and could I move the problem in a file to my new machince.
PS - my niece has downloaded some mp3's off of Kazaa lite last night before I started having these problems.
Thanks for the help!!!!!
