i have recently purchased a new dell computer and on it there is an IEEE 1394 port. before purchasing this computer i got a digital camera (camcorder) and with it came a standard 4 pin cable firewire.it was sony so i think its not an actual fire but has an i on both sides. i have not succeded in downloading video to my computer. i need help in understanding the port on the computer and the cable. both ends of the cable are the same four pin configuration.

looking forward to a response Happy

Sony has their own marketing name for firewire. It's still firewire...

Can you elucidate what detail about a 4 wire firewire cable you need? Are you making your own? Isn't such detail out there on Google?

Be sure to shop around for that cable. As you can see http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=4PK-CABLE&cat=CBL the prices vary wildly from a few bucks to some 30 bucks at some retailers.

Firewire has 2 types of connectors just as USB has 2 types of connectors. You camera has the smaller 4 pin, most computers have the lager 6pin. If this is the case you will have to get a cable that one end is a 4pin and the other is a 6 pin. John
