Mcinstcleanup 0056201230916743--no file

by phil66 / January 13, 2009 11:45 PM PST

I found the following file in my HTJ log. This was not existing when recent log was run.

mcinstcleanup 0056201230916743 -- no file

Registry has legacy_0056201230916743 mcinstcleanup with sub file 0000

0000 contains values in device Desc and Services

Services entries are no description set to automatic on local system

Search of google shows a McAfee thread that indicates it may be related to uninstall of McAfee

I did uninstall the new Mcafee site advisor last week.

Could these entries be related to this uninstalling of site advisor

Do you recommend removing these from registry, HTJ and turning off in services

Thanks for the help

Ray

Hi Ray,

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

mcinstcleanup 0056201230916743 -- no file

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Reboot

Hi Marianna

Well that did not work it is still in HJT scan,Registry and Services.

Could it be that the weather down south is just to warm for BC fixes to work. LOL

What do you suggest next.

Hi Ray,

yeah... I am still IN the "Big White Cold North" Devil

Is it GONE from Add\Remove?

Did you have a look in: C:\Program Files\SiteAdvisor\6066\Uninstall.exe

it is GONE from there?

What is IF you run:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Hi Marianna

I'll start from the top to answer your questions.

Yes it is gone from add/remove that is how I originally uninstalled it.

Yes it is gone from program files only an empty McAfee folder was left.

Installed Revouninstaller version 1.7.5.0 and updated same. No listing for McAfee or mcinstcleanup in any of the programs. Search bar did not return any results.

Back tracked thru registry and found one entry for C;\program files\McAfee\siteadvisor\uninstall.exe
Deleted same searched mcinstcleanup and all entries now deleted from registry

Back to HJT scan still existing as 023 mcinstcleanup deleted and rebooted. This did not clean up HJT.

Services still showing entry

Marianna

Yep it's still in services and set on automatic and local system.

The only delete option I see is from files>options>disc cleanup. It will delete console files??

Ray,

No - disable it first !

Then you can open HJT again. Copy the exactline of the 023 regarding McAfee Siteadvisor !

Then click on: Main Menu

Open the Misc Tools Section

Click on: Delete an NT Service

when the window pops up ..... refer to the line you found in the 023 line

Then hit the ok button.

Marianna

I cannot disable in services everything but start greyed out:

When I try to start I get error:
Could not start the mcinstcleanup service on local computer.
Error 3 the system cannot find the path specified.

When I take it to HJT to delete nt service it tells me to disable it first. It is not listed in any of the process managers or uninstall managers of HJT
I am going in a vicious circle.

Open to your further suggestions

Ray,

Only to be sure...... did you in "services.msc" doubeclick on the McAfee SiteAdvisor ? You see: Startup type ? It was set to: automatic. Did you click on the little arrow to the right and set it to disabled? Or was everything "greyed out" ?

Path to it is: Program Files\McAfee\SiteAdvisor\McSACore.exe

Do you still have the above in Program Files ?

Ray,

you will have to re-install SiteAdvisor and your first step after installing AGAIN, would be to go to "services.msc" and DISABLE it. Then uninstall and then hoping the darn thing is GONE Wink Fingers crossed Happy

In reply to: IF nothing goes.......

Marianna

These are the steps I used:

Download and ran McAfee consumer Product Removal tool it gave me a successful cleanup

When I opened services and double clicked on mcinstcleanup I was then able to disable it

Back to HJT and the service was no longer listed.

I had to reinstall HJT after using the removal tool but that was just a small beer compared to having to redo site advisor.

Thanks for the help

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
