Mcaffee trouble
Jan 20, 2005 1:25AM PST

Sorry, dont know how to edit this . i just remembered something else. I had downloaded Stopzilla a few wks ago. and my trial period was over. so i un-installed it. Then rebooted my stystem. When i came back up everything in my tool bar was gone also. the task scheduler, volume control icon , nvida icon , mcaffe icon. i got most back except the Nvidia icon, Then got another error message from Mcaffee. Maybe i should just unistalled it and re install it

Just a suggestion...

Rilona..

You might want to hold off .. for the time being on the reinstall. I'm relatively new at this, but do know a couple of things. One being that Grif knows McAfee backward and forwards (IMHO). He will most likely get to you. You might also add whether you have installed SP2. It's only a hunch that you will be asked about your OS, or at the very least about SP2.

I had some problems with McAfee, which were solved here. Be patient. Someone will get to you.

You might want to add which, if any, anti-spyware programs you have. Again, just a thought from a Newbie.

Rilona, With Newer McAfee Programs...
Jan 20, 2005 3:37AM PST

...that's fairly normal. It would be nice to know exactly which versio of McAfee you are using, plus your operating system. . (RIGHT click on the McAfee shield, or red "M", in the lower right corner, choose "About Virus Scan". Tell us the version/build number, plus the scan engine and virus definitions number)

In addition, the EXACT error message you are receiving would help us determine the problem. (I believe the file name is more correctly spelled: "Mcshield.exe".)

There are a number of start up programs for the newer McAfee programs and when you disable the on-acess scanner, which does seem to help when playing games, it is difficult to get all of those back up and running again. McAfee simply didn't design the newer versions to be disabled, then restarted easily..Restarting or logging back in is the best way to get it restarted so it protects you correctly.

Hope this helps.

Rilona, Looks Like Everything's Up To Date...
Jan 20, 2005 4:43AM PST

....so as I mentioned earlier, what you are experiencing isn't really out of the ordinary. As long as the program is running correctly and is able to run scans, etc., then it doesn't appear like there's anything really wrong. You simply need to restart the computer after you've disabled McAfee so that all of McAfee gets going again. ON a Windows 98 machine such as your's, it's possible that the "resources" are down after playing games and it could be causing a "hiccup".

I know that with our computers, after temporarily disabling McAfee, I always restart them instead of simply trying to enable them from the system tray. That way, at least I know that the computer has refreshed itself and all the programs have started up correctly.

Hope this helps.
