1. Put the MBP up on stilts and point a fan at it to max out cooling.
2. Duplicate the install DVD at 1/2 the record or media speed whichever is lower and try that DVD.
3. Try a blank drive. No format, just blank.
Tell more about this SNOW LEOPARD DVD. I was not happy the last incident where it was a downloaded torrent copy.

I've tried unsuccessfully to install snow leopard (retail) either onto a formatted HD or onto the HD with leopard. The install gets about 2/3 completed but stops with an alert saying it can't be installed on this computer. Also, when closing the install by selecting "startup Disk, the internal HD isn't recognized but then when I go to "disk utility", it is on the list. At this point I have to re-install Leopard.
