Are you saying that New Orleans was going to "get what they deserved" no matter who they voted for?

when you and DK said basically the same thing...

Evie:
they deserve what they get

dirtyrich:
I'll be even less sympathetic should another disaster hit NO.

DK:
Spoken like a true Jerry Falwell plus pat robertson et al "new orleans is a modern day sodom and gomorrah" fan!

WOW!!!

You couldn't be more wrong. Saying they deserved it and you won't have sympathy should it happen again in no way makes you a Falwell fan. That is an ENORMOUS stretch.

Of course it was a zinger. It's obvious and undeniable. Sheesh!

Falwell supported Landreau?
May 20, 2006 1:54PM PDT

or was it Nagin? Or did he not give support to either one? As I recall Falwell is a few states away in Lynchburg. Can he now be blamed for lynchings too? Did you read this in a rag called the Houston Chronicle?

Chocolate people
May 20, 2006 1:56PM PDT

Now that Nagin's mayor again, maybe he can court Hershey to produce a New Orleans special candy called "chocolate people". It could be the hottest seller there since Reggie bars.

Last Disaster
May 21, 2006 9:01AM PDT

I thought Katrina caused the last disaster. If we blame Nagin for the buses, who do we blame for the levees? I say blame all the ones that deserve it, but I didn't see any of the candidates as being an outstanding choice.

i blame it all on the people

should ship all the invaders there and build a wall around it

You could blame it on God

but the buck has to stop somewhere. Nagin was effectively the man in charge at the scene, and neglected to take the prescribed steps to evacuate the city safely.

God
May 21, 2006 9:57AM PDT

God expects us to use some sense on where to build structures. Have you ever heard the parable about the man who built his house upon the sand, and the other who built his upon the rock? There's even a child's church song about it. Let's not blame God for man's stupidity.

Clueless response that has absolutely
May 21, 2006 12:15AM PDT

no connection to my post. Nagin was largely responsible for the chaos and deaths from Katrina, and the people of NO have re-elected him anyway. They, like every voter or non-voter in a democratic society, deserve what they get.

Uh Oh!

Bush's ratings are sure gonna drop some more now! Nagin just THANKED him!

Devil vs Deep Blue Sea
May 20, 2006 1:50PM PDT

That's about the choice New Orleans had to vote between, and probably better the Devil they know than the one they also know. I know that sounds a bit nuts, but hey, it's Louisianna and politics there exist just inside the Twilight Zone.

I was wondering about Hurricane "Moesha"
May 20, 2006 3:19PM PDT

I remembered this from a few years back and have been wondering how New Orleans would have felt if they'd been hit by an Hurricane with an African American name such as "Moesha" or similar. Would Nagin describe that as a "chocolate city hit by a chocolate milkshake"? I almost regret "Hurricane Sheila" from the Houston area, (heh, heh, where else?) didn't get her suggestion accepted. Too bad Sheila Jackson Lee wasn't running against Nagin for Mayor of New Orleans or the election could have become very entertaining.

http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=33896

"The congressional newspaper the Hill reported this week that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, feels that the current names are too "lily white," and is seeking to have better representation for names reflecting African-Americans and other ethnic groups.
"All racial groups should be represented," Lee said, according to the Hill. She hoped federal weather officials "would try to be inclusive of African-American names."

A sampling of popular names that could be used include Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn, according to the paper. "

On a visit to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Lee, a member of the House Science Committee's space subcommittee, asked if the Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag Neil Armstrong planted there in 1969!

So, obviously, it's not just New Orleans politics, but Houston ones as well. A choice between her and Nagin and I think New Orleans are the luckier ones.

One thing's for sure
May 21, 2006 10:24AM PDT

The people of New Orleans know exactly who and what they have for a mayor and just what level of competence he has. It brings to mind an old saying though, "Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me." They should not try to point any fingers at Nagin in the future for things they already know he is not capable of dealing with.
