Maybe PETA was right (in a very narrow case...)

Bushmeat Sparks Fears of New AIDS-Type Virus.
We're very lucky we didn't do this in the First World with the Sabin polio vaccine, which was grown in monkeys. SV-40 is an ocogenic virus, the 40th virus isolated from the vaccine (!), but human cells are luckily not permissive for its growth, and all the others also seem benign or non-infectious towards humans. OTOH, some still claim that's the real origin of AIDS, though the viral spread rates don't fit with that notion.

And swine flu with the pork chops,
and......

Zoonosis (isn't that a nasty sounding word anyway?) is a unfortunate reality. And doesn't have to be eating the meat, can just be around infected animals with a mutate strain of an old animal only disease.
