Maxtor transferspeed using firewire (only 9,2 MB/s)

Jul 4, 2005 5:49AM PDT

Can anybody help my solve this problem:
I can only make my Maxtor 250 GB external hard drive perform at 9,2 mb/s. I am using firewire.

Setup:
Win xp home sp2
Asus MB
Nero "backITup"

I am backing up 200+ GB once a week so upping the speed to the expcted 40 mb/s would be nice.

Best

Just my observations.

Windows? Use USB 2.0.
Apple? Firewire.

I can't explain why this is what works best.

Benchmarks show...

USB2.0 is faster than Firewire. FSB; CPU speed; software and memory all affect speed. I suspect one bottleneck to be the Nero software. Get a good backup software <winbackup 2.0 is what I use and it does quite well>.

and life goes on...
