maxtor external hard drive not recognized?

by preppystud / January 17, 2006 11:38 AM PST

i bought this maxtor 3100 external hard drive. there is nothing to install.

so i just plug the power cord, and plug the usb thing.

however, my laptop tells me that it is not recognized.

i tried several times, turned off the laptop and restart again. still nothing happened.

so is there something wrong with the hard drive or something else? according to its web site, there is nothing to install.

I dropped hints that the OS matters (you didn't share) and that TWEAKUI could help to reveal if drive letters were hidden.

Not a word about this so I'm left to wonder.

In all the versions I've seen, there is a hidden drive letter section for explorer.

Look at this picture.

About "win xp home", that's a problem. USB 2.0 support arrived in SP1 and was fixed in SP2. It matters.

there are only two things that don't have a ? mark next to it.

and i think that it is the power problem.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
