I sensed problems on a Maxtor that was only 7 mos. old. When I started hearing clicks, I thought it was one of my other disks which were older and almost didn't get it backed up before it really went out. Maxtor replaced the disk but it still was a lot of trouble. I have had problems with Maxtor disks. They don't last long and maybe that is why they only offer a one year warranty. I had one go 13 mos. after I purchased it so it was out of warranty. When hard disks first came on the market in the mid-80s they frequently crashed and had to be replaced but the technology has impreoved so much that a crash now is rare - except with Maxtors.
