General discussion

Maximise all windows.

Dec 16, 2009 6:41PM PST

I am a Silver Surfer with tech knowledge of minus 50 !!!!

All I need at this time is step by step, line by line instructions on how to make all my windows and folders and files open maximised.

This question is presumably going to cause roars of laughter throughout the community but I have to learn somewhere.

I am using Vista on an Equium laptop.

Thanks in anticipation

Nope, no laughter here.

We're here to try and help, even with what may seem the simplest of problems.

However, your -50 tech knowledge made me smile. We've all been there in some way or other. May be we can improve your score a few points, Happy

Can we assume you know how to maximise windows anyway? In the top right hand corner of each window are 3 options, "Minimise, Change, and Close".

If a window you are using at the moment is not currently maximised, click the central option and it will maximise. If you then close down that window then re-open it, will it open Maximised or does it open yet again as a smaller window?

If it opens Maximised, then that is the way to do it. Unfortunately as far as I know, there is no way to tell Vista to open all applications in a maximised window. You have to do this for each application, and eventually you will have done it for all.

But perhaps others here will know a better way.

I hope that helps.

Maximise all Windows
Dec 16, 2009 8:08PM PST

Hi Mark,

I am still minus 50 on tech scale !!!

Yes, I am ok with maximise/minimise button but when I use it , then go elsewhere - or re-start , the windows I maximised are all back to Minimised .

I have also managed to use the arrow/stretch facility on individual windows but they also seem to revert when I exit.

Does this qualify me fo a better Tech setting ? Say Minus 45 ?

Thanks for input

Re: open maximized

That's difficult, because there's more than one way to start a program or open a window. So there are different ways to influence the size of the windows that opens.

I'll give one of those methods:
1. Right click on the shortcut you use to open the program. Choose properties. On the 'shortcut' tab select 'Open maximized'. OK.
This doesn't influence programs or windows you open in other ways, but it's a first step. If you're done with all your shortcuts, please tell what doesn't work yet.

He Kees,

I have done as you suggest for some files/folders where it allows me so to do.

I will report back when I have used a few more files

Thanks for your interest

Maximised Windows

Hi Kees,

Just to report that I now have more maximised windows than I have ever had before.

Still not 100% but great improvement.

Thanks for your help

Mikstan.

You've got this far, and your technical knowledge has soared, to at least -30! Happy

Congratulations on sorting the maximised windows issue, at least for most of your programs. There will always be some that don't play ball very well.

Well done Mikstan.
