Max. capacity available for 2.5" internal laptop IDE HDD?

Nov 23, 2009 5:39AM PST

Hi,
My laptop's hard drive is full to capacity, so I want to purchase a new 2.5" internal hard drive. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1300, and has an IDE interface.

Ideally I want a 500 GB disk, but I can't seem to find any available anywhere. I've found plenty of SATA disks, but I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that IDE disks are not available at that size. The largest that I can find is 320 GB, which is too small for my needs.

Can anyone confirm whether or not 500 GB 2.5" IDE internal hard drives are available? Any links to products or resellers would be appreciated.

Many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Ken.

320GB IDE 2.5" HDD is the max in the market. Instead of attempting to install it internally, why not go as external SATA instead? this will not only save on cost (finding an IDE-based 320GB can cost even more than a 500GB Sata) just for getting the best capacity for cash.

Your choice.

Since you go external why stop at 500GB?

But then it's not a laptop any more?
