Matrix MX-1200

Dec 22, 2006 7:48PM PST

Hey everyone. Im looking to update my home cinema & have been looking for some decent floor speakers. I have a nice pair of mission bookshelf speakers at the moment & ive been looking at some nice floor speakers. I noticed a beautiful pair of Matrix MX-1200 on ebay but wondered if anyone could tell me about them, the advert says theyre really big in the U.S? So far the only place ive found a pair is ebay which i thought was strange. Also ive been looking at a pair of Gale 3040 with a 3080 sub & was wondering if anyone had any experience of those? Theres lots of Kef speakers for sale but sadly theyre too far away to pick up. Thanks everyone..

YOU MUST BUY SPEAKERS THAT ARE A MATCHED SET. Some folks say that mismatched speakers will work but they wont I have been there the sound will be good but not involving good luck stew

Stew,i didnt realize it was so important to have the speakers matching,i thought it would be a good idea & preferred but i didnt realize it was something that i should really take on board. Being a bit of a novice (but someone who appreciates quality sound) any advice is welcome so thankyou for that Stew..

What about some Missions?

Mission speakers are winners. Here (stateside) I had perhaps rock & roll type speakers & wanted to investigate more subtle speakers with great vocal clarity. I was definitely on a budget. My late dealer was a retired electical engineer who ran his home based hi-fi shop out of love of music. As an independent in a market area of only 1/4 million tops, his small group of peaker brands included Mission. Although in a secondary listening room, I still appreciate my Mission Freedoms.

Neither Matrix nor Gale are represented too well in the U.S. Matrix seems to sell mostly auto speakers here. Gale is apparently a finer line of speakers.

Apparently you are of limited budget. I just mention that relative to one of the dream brands lusted after here is B&W. Only money is the limitation. Also just to mention; as a young adult I found a dealer close to Hollywood who claimed to have done a couple hundred installations for show business folk. He sold me a pair of Tannoy 15" dual concentric drivers & instructions to home build enclosures. Ah, nostalgia or such rich sound. I actually sold them & bought them back 35 years hence. They are awaiting to find an expert to rehabilitate the cones.

on a pair of mission speakers after reading the replies. The Gale speakers were in my price range & included a sub, also they look the part but the most important thing the sound is unknown because ive never heard a pair. The Matrix pair is exactly the same, ive never heard a pair, but if you look on ebay they certainly look the part but thats not enough. Talking about nostalgia,20 years ago we dropped on a musical fidelity amp. All this amp had was on\off,volume & aux, phono etc. The sound it gave out (cant remember what speakers we had at the time) was excellent, the warmer it got the better it got. If i could find one of those over hear now i would definitely buy it. One of my friends had a valve amp which was just as pure, being so young at the time though i didnt appreciate it as much as i should have. Id love to get the quality sound we had back then now..ah nostalgia,im with you there. Good luck with finding the expert & thanks for the advice..

matrix speakers

I have a set of Matrix MX 1200 and the sound is phenomenal. For clarity and tone these are the business. They're connected to my media centre with Prologic providing the front center and surround. Can't fault them for the price they are currently available for. It's easy to see why their original tag was $1999 each.
