Question

Mass shooters are dems?

Answer
I didn't know they were surveyed
Feb 22, 2018 12:40PM PST

but something that might be noteworthy is that most that happen in schools are done by younger people. I suppose we could expect that, since the Democrat party has made a strong effort to recruit college age persons, the shooters are likely to lean in that direction. But, I doubt if such questions have become a part of the interrogation process. The Columbine, Sandy Hook and Parkland massacres all featured shooters too young to buy alcohol in most states. The Virginia college shooter was 23 years of age. These shooters aren't of the "gun loving" crowd who enjoy showing off their weapons and skills. They're not the crowd that engages in paint ball wars and love to train in tactical combat exercises. They're not likely to be NRA donors either.
I can't help but think there has been something missing in the lives of so many younger people these past years that has created a culture of anger and despair. I wonder if it has anything to do with being raised in front of the television and video games. I wonder what part the constant noise of discordant music with vulgar lyrics has played. I wonder about their being absorbed under the glass of their hand helds has done to them. There but for fortune...

that most that happen in schools are done by younger people.

Because a 45 year old man walking into a school would set off an alert? 45 year old people don't have a grudge with students?

Not many younger people shot at a Las Vegas hotel...what does that signify?

Oh....and to also refresh your memory after our discussion about rifles vs guns....you wanted an example of a gun being used to kill more than a rifle..... think VA TECH with 32 dead using HANDGUNS.

ONLY in AMERICA has the reason/excuse been brought up about video games and television....there are video games and televisions all over the world...and America is the ONLY country that uses THAT defense/logic?

an admission from a liberal that you would take away our 2nd Amendment....the true ultimate goal of the left.

How do you know that it isn't the logic being used in other countries, JP? Are you there for the trials and hearing the defense argument of "it's not his fault, he learned this from movies and video games"? Kind of like the killer who got off because he was 'too affluent' or the one who used the 'Twinkie' defense?

Do you believe that movies and video games don't desensitize kids to blood, gore, and death no matter where they live?

You never did answer one particular question that I've asked...

Exactly what use is an AR15 to ANY civilian(not military OR police)?

Hunting, fishing.... WHAT use?

Target practice? Practice to hit/kill WHAT?

PLEASE answer.

What is the ultimate goal of the right?

My car can go 120mph but they only let me drive at 70mph and then only on certain roads...What's up with that?

What is the "ultimate goal"?

- Collapse -
The whole point of the 2nd Amendment
Feb 23, 2018 1:01PM PST

is that we don't HAVE to explain why we want or feel we need to have ANY gun that is LEGAL......

"They only LET me drive at 79mph", so why do YOU BUY a car that will actually go FASTER than that? Why do you think the car companies actually MAKE one that will go 120mph? Because cities need ticket money from those who go faster than the speed limit, even if it's only 5mph over so Congress and local/State governments allow it.....semis have governors on them that control their speeds....cars do not for a reason. Semi owners (including fleet owners) pay HUGE dollars to be on the roads....cars don't so the governments have to get their 'fair share' some other way.

let me think about that....

a 20 ton vehicle does more damage to a road that a 2 ton vehicle?

If I'm read that correct it looks like the first 6/10 words tosses your right out the window.

I would not expect congress to make much of a change in this area as gun lovers have convinced themselves they have a right and they control a large number of votes.

Feb 23, 2018 5:48AM PST

That depends on the movie and game, of course, and on what their parents and peers think of it.

But the easier they have access to guns, the easier they will use those to produce that blood, gore and death, don't you think? If all you have to do is to take one from your parents bedroom (where they have one to defend themselves against the occasional burglar passing by in the night) they are more likely to use it than if they have to buy it illegally somewhere.
So it makes sense to limit the ease of access, don't you agree?

- Collapse -
Yup
Feb 23, 2018 8:48AM PST

Ease of access is one issue both for young people and adults.

The type of weapon being sold to the public is another issue.

I don't expect my pols to do much in either area.

Too much political peril.

Do you honestly believe that
Feb 23, 2018 1:08PM PST

it is easy to purchase a gun or rifle? The only way it IS easy is to get one off the street illegally.....how do you propose to solve THAT issue instead of trying to solve a problem that ISN'T a problem for LEGAL owners?

Dems keep talking about 'take guns away from people who shouldn't have them'....but they are ONLY talking about taking them from people who already own them LEGALLY. What are they doing about taking them away from those who don't give a crap about the laws that are already on the books and get them ILLEGALLY? Do you have a solution?

Thus far, political preference hasn't been discussed as a category falling under any kind of "equal rights" definition nor has a party wanted to be made a "protected class". In these crazy times, however, I don't get surprised by much.

My thoughts came (partially) from a memory I had about a nephew of mine who'd co-authored a piece that was published in medical and other sources. It was a study done while he was in college regarding the potential affect of violent video games on young people. I believe this study was done somewhere around the turn of the century so I suspect many of the games reviewed we tame when compared to today's offerings. I do remember him discussing this project at family gatherings. This nephew shares my last name and the writing can be found on the web. I've read parts of it but not all but it does mention the high body counts, lack of blood, and use of powerful weapons of the shooters choice. I take the piece as being a bit of a warning.

Today, with "virtual reality" devices and FPS games aplenty, I could almost picture this Parkland kid as thinking he was actually participating in the ultimate video game.

I think you mixed up your replies. No matter.

On the video game question I'm on rhe Nay side; no surprise there. Here's why.
Gal 5:21 ff. "Now the works of the flesh are plainly seen, and they are sexual immorality, uncleanness, brazen conduct, idolatry, spiritism, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, dissensions, divisions, sects, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these."
A list of "works", not simulations of works. Video games off the hook? Not quite.
Eph 5:3. "Let sexual immorality and every sort of uncleanness or greediness not even be mentioned among you."
Note two key phrases. "things like these" and "not even mentioned".
All that sex stuff; so where's the violence? Ps 11:5. "Jehovah examines the righteous one as well as the wicked one; He hates anyone who loves violence."
There's more, as always. The point is that these ideas are based on principles, not rules and regulations. Jehovah created us; he loves us and wants what's best for us; his judgment is always sound.
How many school shootings in heaven? "... on EARTH as it is in heaven." If everyone followed these principles now, EA would be out of business. Any other changes you can think of?

I keyed on your comment about cross-checking voting registration to determine political affiliation and applied that to today's desire to avoid profiling of any kind so as to know who to keep an eye on or scrutinize more. My other paragraph was written simply as an opportunity to digress to a subject I'd written about earlier in the thread. I only pick on certain people whose motives I trust when I hijack their posts. Clarification.....on my part
Feb 24, 2018 2:11AM PST

Mass KILLINGS (not necessarily just SHOOTINGS) are ones where four or more are killed or wounded....

But this site lists the SHOOTINGS and doesn't include other types, such as using cars/trucks, knives, etc. Nor does it separate HANDGUNS used vs RIFLES used. That said....

There is also NO distinction regarding political affiliations....many are domestic issues, others are gang related, and a good number are by UNKNOWN shooters as they are unsolved by law enforcement. In order to KNOW the political affiliation, you actually have to RESEARCH cases where the killer is KNOWN and either killed (by cops or his own hand) and gets publicity enough to look up his own personal history, which is what I did with the examples I gave you. Some of the ones I gave you used rifles (Scalise, the DC corridor shooters (not in my list BTW) that were NOT AR's, and some used HANDGUNS (VA Tech shooter, the church shooter, for example).

You asked if mass shooters are DEMS.....you didn't specifically ask if they were DEMS who used an AR.....I believe out of the list, there are actually three, if I'm recalling correctly. Nevada, Sandy Hook, and now Fl. You want to eliminate that particular rifle, but don't want to talk about the crazy with another type of rifle or a handgun, just like all the rest of the liberal DEMS. BUT if you can get that camel's nose under the tent to ban the ONE that is used less than any other gun, you can start cramming that hump further and further into the tent and ban everything. It's not going to work, JP. I would suggest that you worry about Canada's political issues and not worry so much about ours because YOUR opinion in MY country doesn't matter.

Mass KILLINGS (not necessarily just SHOOTINGS) are ones where four or more are killed or wounded....

Why would People that are 'wounded" be included in Mass KILLINGS?

BUT if you can get that camel's nose under the tent to ban the ONE that is used less than any other gun, you can start cramming that hump further and further into the tent and ban everything

AND IF you can allow people to carry assault weapons....the next part of the camel that gets into the tent is rocket launchers, hand grenades?...

You never did answer Exactly what use is an AR15 to ANY civilian(not military OR police)?

When I ask for a "use" "target practice" doesn't count.

Why practice being able to hit something with a weapon you have no use for? It's just not logical as Spock would say....

Are you stumped...you can't come up with anything?
- Collapse -
IF you knew our laws well enough
Feb 24, 2018 7:32AM PST

or bothered to WANT to know them, you would already be aware of the fact that just as automatic weapons are banned, so are rocket launchers and hand grenades. That doesn't mean that people can't get their hands on them or build them in their basements, just as pressure cooker bombs, fertilizer bombs, and IED's can be. When someone is determined to kill, they find weapons to do that. So your question is irrelevant and a distraction.

As for what use civilians have for an AR gun (the letters, btw, stand for the name of the manufacturer that is patented even though many gun makers actually make them), we don't NEED to have a specific use for them to explain our ownership. So, again, your DEMAND for an explanation isn't because I'm 'stumped' but rather because your demand is irrelevant and another distraction.

Do YOU agree that banning another weapon is the beginning of getting them ALL banned? As stats prove, handguns are used more for mass killings, and ALL killings, than any rifle has EVER been used. Are you okay with only criminals having them since they can be illegally bought on the street pretty easily?

You don't NEED AND you don't HAVE.....

So you CAN'T justify why ANY civilian NEEDS an AR15.

Some parents might find a NEED for bulletproof clothing for their kids....
