Marketscore are they spys

Mar 14, 2004 1:41AM PST

Marketscore offers internet Accelerator that allows me to download Web pages up to 100% faster, protect my computer againts email viruses while increasing my web page download speed. Is this true or are they just spying on me. Because my 56kbps modem is still at 46.6kbps, has not doubled and will there anti-virus program interfere with my AVG anti-virus program that already protects my email.

"What it does
Advertising

No.
Privacy violation

Yes. Every web connection you make, including 'secure' connections, goes through the proxies and is logged and analysed on behalf of MarketScore's customer companies.
Security issues

Unconfirmed. There is a 'required update' feature, but it is unknown whether this happens without consent from the user.
Stability problems

Won't work if you have to use a different proxy. Will kill your internet connection if you try to delete the csloa.dll component manually. "

Do you have SPYBOT installed? If so it will catch any spyware and remove it. If not, go to cnet.com and download the real SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY... it's free. There is another company trying to use that same name and they charge...be careful not to download that one. Hope this helps.

I've found that AD-Aware is far superior to almost every spyware removal program on the market. Anyways a download accelerator will not work for you on a dial up connection really unless it works with a proxy and compresses your downstream. I reccomend removing it and then scanning your HD with AD-Aware 6.0 a couple times a week. Also, what do you pay for dial-up? You can get broadband access relatively cheap these days. So, I really wouldn't trust any of these sevices that boast higher download speeds or have the word "Market" in their name, lol. And even the proxy based ones lack the ability to transmit a download any faster. Web pages however will seem faster because they are purely digital Happy.
