Many Cnet links & controls don't work

My browser blocks google-supplied javascripts. That is intentional. As a result, links & controls that rely on google-supplied javascripts don't work -- that's most links & controls at Cnet. I have not found a workaround. It would be nice (and to its advantage) for Cnet to provide alternate navigation methods. Since the Cnet site relies on google-supplied javascripts to such a large extent, Cnet is living in an echo chamber in which it only hears from people who don't care about security. ...I don't know how I managed to post this message ...and I have no idea (as I write this) whether the posting is going to suceed, but I can tell you that I'm surprised. I'm a long-term Cnet member, but I have been frustrated for over a year.

Hi there markfilipak-cnet!

Thank you for providing this feedback.

From what I understand "google-supplied javascripts" are most likely ad served on our site. However if you are blocking those, they shouldn't render any of our site's functionality from executing. Is there a possibility that other blocking apps are rendering CNET's javascript from executing?

Can you give me some example of CNET page where you state "most links & controls at Cnet" don't work? Are you talking about the CNET drop down menu at the top of CNET pages?

You probably managed to post this forum topic because our JavaScript is not related to "google-supplied javascripts".

With some more details from you I can get some folks to look at it.

I appreciate your help!

Lee. What about the hyperlink on this page

Using Firefox and when clicking the box "SEE THE SETUP" I get a busy page for just a second or two and then this same page displays again. Nothing else happens. Just curious and thought I'd mention it.

Hi Bill,

Do you have a link to the page you are describing, so I can look into it?

Everything works fine

The hyperlinked title is now missing from this page.

When I initially open the message "Many Cnet links & controls don't work" there was that hyperlinked title over on the right side and below the questions and answers. I was curious and clicked the link and other than the active window appearing busy for a second nothing changed nor any other window or tab opened. That hyperlink as described isn't on THIS page now. I had clicked it at that time as I was curious.

Sorry Bill, not sure what you are referring to.

Sorry Lee,

there is no way of knowing since I never went there because the the hyperlink never worked back when and is now MISSING from that message. Thanks though for all of you who responded.

No worries Bill.

If you see it again, just let me know about it and include a link.

the same happened to me a couple of months ago. had to switch to a different adblocking app in order for features to work properly.

Most of these problems are due to blocking apps in browsers.

Once someone has blockers installed or some sort of aggressive anti 'something' installed it is very likely it will cause issues like these on sites that use JavaScript. 90% of all the complaints that come through to us about this, is because of this. So be forewarned folks.

Thanks,
-Lee
