Question

Manuallyuninstalling programs

Nov 11, 2013 6:50PM PST

Hi all,

I am new here and not sure if this is the right forum (if not can some kind soul tell me which forum I should use) I am doing some 'house cleaning and removing programs I no longer need/use and wonder if any one can give me a bit of advice.

I have 2 programs, Star Wars Chess and PLDS SmartPack Utility which do not appear in the add/remove program window. I would like to remove both of these. I have tried an internet and a Cnet search but have not be able to find a simple explanation of how to remove programs manually. Could anyone give me a 'complete idiots guide' on how to remove such programs?

My computer skills are not fantastic but I can follow instructions so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks
Chieflx

Sometimes there's an uninstall in the Start>Programs folder for this program. Then run that.

And sometimes there is nothing. Then simply delete the subfolder in Program Files. To be on the safe side, rename it first, reboot and see if anything goes wrong. If not, delete it to the recycle bin. If still no problems after a week it's safe to delete it from there also.

The last thing after the above.

I'm running into folk that are not Windows users. That is, a left over item in the start menu confounds them on how to remove. There are a few ways but the right click, delete still works there.
