Question

Manually moving email?

Mar 16, 2018 4:45PM PDT

I use Windows Live Mail with Windows 7. I want to export my mail to another computer. I've tried exporting to a large USB drive and importing to the 2nd computer several times. Out of about 2000 emails, it only imports about 3 or 4 emails, usually older ones. Maybe it's a POP3 mail problem, but the MS tutorial says I might have to "manually export & import" my mail. OK, but how would that be done?.

Answer
If I were to do this today.

I would not use Microsoft's methods. Why? Because they tend to just not work.

I would instead consider installing Thunderbird and read articles about getting your mail into Tbird.
Now I'm ready to move my email to other PCs that run Tbird.

Correct. MS method didn't work

Maybe it was my fault it didn't work, but there apparently is another way to move the mail. I have found some of my old notes where I saved somebody's direction of where Windows Live Mail was stored. I loaded the 703MB onto my USB drive - but that's as far as I go tonight. I'm still wondering if I can "Import" from that folder, or just copy it to merge with the same folder in the other computer?
BTW, I've used Outlook, Outlook Express, and Windows Live Mail my entire computing life, so I'm sticking with what I know, both in function and design.
