mandrake 9.0 and nvidia

Hi,
I'm trying to install the nvidia driver for my mandrake system but it won't let me i don't have kde starting automatically i boot to a command prompt and i am trying to install the driver by typing:
rpm -i Nvidia etc ( I am at work at the moment and don't know the exact filename but i am in the correct directory and typing the correct name ) after a couple of seconds it says it can't install it needs kernel 2.4.6 or later which as far as I know mandrake 9.0 comes with that can anyone help.

amd k62 500
nvidia 200/400 with 32mb mem
512mb memory
80gb hdd

Update Mandrake to 10.2 or what ever is newest.
